Location is perfect

This is always going to be my first option in Rotorua to stay in. Location is perfect as everything is within reach plus you can have a lake view on your room. Walkable to the restaurants nearby and children's playground. Staffs were very polite, happy and respectful. Parking is quite hard if its on peak season but being an Accor member, should be ok. Toilet and bath a bit outdated though given this is rated as a 4star hotel.

Another stay in Paradise

A warm welcome, excellent staff, an extremely comfortable bed in a spacious room, delightful dining and bar visits, and front desk who were efficient and very effective. This is one of our favourite hotels, not surprisingly!

We stayed previously with Novotel Rotorua and ot was great. This time wasn't so great. The bathtub wasn't cleaned from previous guests, it was filthy and I needed to ask for it to be cleaned. The breakfast also was a bit of a disappointment. Previous stays were one of the best brekafasts I had in a hotel. This time was very minimal, many things weren't availble, maybe due to lower occupancy.

Shocking - a tarnish on the Novotel brand

Arrived in the middle of a night time running event, which restricted our ability to access the hotel - similarly, there were exterior painting works, which necessitated a crane in front of our room. I’d expect to have been told this either before I booked or before we arrived. We were given a room which looked directly into the Ibis next door - if the view was not private, or obstructed, what exactly was I paying for? While the town does have a ‘smell’ to it, it was somehow worse inside our rooms. We could barely breathe. The shower was old, and the bathroom lights flickered. Stained carpet and furniture, dirty windows. Service in the dining area was also shocking. If we didn’t have evening activities booked in, we would have moved hotels after the first night. This hotel does not deserve to be associated with Accor. I will say the friendly and effective management team were apologetic and did what they could, but you can only put so much lipstick on a pig.

Disappointed

Arrived at 4.30 (approx) and our room was not ready. Not a major problem. Where given drinks vouchers for the bar to enjoy a drink while we waited. Got told our room was ready and given the access card. Got outside the room to find used glasses and empty milk bottles still sitting outside out room. Still not a major issue. Got inside the room, then discovered that housekeeping had not checked the fridge/mini bar and we had a half-drunk bottle of Coke in the fridge, and other mini bar items still there but no milk for Tea or Coffee. Contacted guest services to advise as I didn't want to be charged for something we didn't drink. My daughter had a shower and discovered the white towel she grabbed had some brown marks/stains on it. Behind the main curtains are some net (type) curtains which I went to pull over but there were only a curtain on one side - other side missing. Also the Air Con unit had a clunking sound which went on and off all night. In the morning on-check (appro.x 8.30am) there were a few people trying to check out and only on person on the desk......had to wait around 20 mins to check out.
